Research - Speech Pathology

Research at the Royal Children's Hospital is currently conducted by clinicians employed by both the Royal Children's Hospital and Murdoch Children's Research Institute.

The research unit is located along side the clinical services department at RCH and is led by Professor Sheena Reilly. The research unit aims to determine accurate information about children's speech, language and swallowing development and related disorders, and provide evidence for the assessment and treatment of such disorders.

  • Stuttering Research Consortium
  • Child Language Consortium
  • Craniofacial Sciences consortium
  • Evidence Based Practice

The research unit is jointly funded by The RCH Foundation and MCRI. At various times the research unit may also receive funding from other interested funding bodies. Information about making a contribution to the research unit to assist them to continue their work can be found at MCRI: Donate now or at So to Speak - Speech Pathology. Sheena Reilly and her team greatly appreciate all offers and all donations are put to very good use.

Although the research unit and clinical services department are separate entities, the two work very closely together. Clinical staff are also heavily involved in research projects which may be undertaken independently, within the various clinical streams or in conjunction with the research consortiums. Information about research being completed by RCH clinical staff which is not part of the research unit's work can be found at Research - Speech pathology.

See Education & Training - Speech Pathology for individuals interested in completing further studies or a higher degree.
