No.11: Library membership

Who can join?

Membership is open to holders of identification badges of The Royal Children's Hospital and the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute.

Students on placement may join the library if they have been issued with a hospital identification badge, and will be associated with the hospital for four weeks or more.

How to apply

Pick up a registration form from the library, or register here. Complete the form, and fax, mail or bring it to the library.

After your registration has been processed you will receive a library card via internal mail unless otherwise requested. This card entitles you to access library services while associated with the hospital.

Using your library card

When you have your library card you can:

  • Borrow items from the library.
  • Access your patron information online using the library catalogue. You can:
    • Renew your loans.
    • Check the status of items on hold.
    • Manage book lists and print bibliographies of parts of the library collection.
  • Get remote access to electronic resources using your library card barcode and surname as authentication. These include:
    • Databases such as Medline, Embase, CINAHL, Best Evidence, PsycINFO, Books@Ovid full text, Journals@Ovid full text.
    • Ovid and Ebsco Full Text journals through the online journals list.
    • The password list, for use with other full text online journals. Select any "password" link from the online journals list.

Lost or expired cards can be replaced or renewed. Contact library staff.

Staff borrowing information

  • Journals are not for loan, unless required temporarily for a Journal Club, or for making colour copies/scans.
  • Reference material is not for loan.
  • General collection items (books, videos, slides) are available for a two week loan. They may be renewed by phone (first renewal) or by bringing the item to the library (second renewal). No further renewals are allowed.
  • Overdue items incur reminder notices. If your borrowed items are not returned within a reasonable period after receipt of a "Final Notice" you will be invoiced for replacement.

Why so plain?

This site is styled using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). If you can read this message, either you have disabled styles yourself, your browser does not support CSS sufficiently well to be served up the styles, or you are viewing this on a mobile device. Everything here is still readable and usable, it's just not so pretty :)
